About Women in Motion

Women in Motion of High Point is a volunteer-led initiative of the High Point Community Foundation formed to enable women, and men, to combine charitable donations and provide significant grants focused on the critical needs of women, children and families living in the greater High Point community, including Archdale, Trinity, Thomasville and Jamestown. By supporting philanthropic activity and leveraging community collaboration through Women in Motion, we envision a community where women and girls:

  • Have the knowledge, opportunity, and self-determination to be economically secure
  • Have opportunity to pursue their dreams and achieve their full potential
  • Learn about and experience the value of philanthropy and nonprofit leadership
MISSION

Women in Motion of High Point, a diverse group of women in the greater High Point community, will develop partnerships and programs that help women achieve independence and fulfillment.

Women in Motion will strengthen the greater High Point community by supporting its women with knowledge and resources to nurture their growth.

GATHERING WOMEN FOR EDUCATION AND NURTURING

The GWEN Program will help women who find themselves as head of household and need some assistance in understanding how to manage the demands.

The GWEN Program series of workshops to strengthen the education and skills women need to improve, organize, and create success in their lives.

GOAL:

To provide women education and skill development in how to organize and run a variety of household types

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Women planning to move into their first places
  • Women whose household status has changed because of divorce or death
  • Women whose households shift to include multiple generations
  • Women taking on the responsibility of raising grandchildren
  • Women entering or reentering the workforce

Women still face disproportionate challenges in our community across all demographics, including income, age and ethnicity.

  • Income for Guilford County women compared to Guilford County men 78%
  • Average percentage of a woman’s annual income for daycare expenses 17.5%
  • Percentage of women working part-time 21%
  • Percentage of women with no health care insurance 19%
